GRANVILLE TRAIN DISASTER
Claim that unsafe train allowed to run
By Di Bartok
AN official state government apology to survivors and the bereaved of Australia’s deadliest rail disaster would be a fitting way to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the “preventable accident”, says Barry Gobbe, the first ambulance officer on the scene.
ANITA COBBY'S LEGACY
Grace’s Place closer to reality
THE legacy of Anita Cobby, the young Blacktown nurse so brutally murdered 30 years ago, lives on with wide emotional and financial support coming forward for a treatment centre for child victims of homicide.
680 APARTMENTS AT GRANVILLE
Renewal project at station
WESTERN Sydney developer, Develotek Property Group, has committed $186 million to a 10,000-square-metre urban renewal project including 680 apartments adjacent to the Granville train station.
The company has outlaid an undisclosed sum to amalgamate houses, unit blocks and industrial buildings – 38 properties in all
The project will include three, 23-storey residential towers at 14-38 Cowper Street, 21-41 East Street and 5-5a Rowell Street and is the Wetherill Park-based company’s biggest development to date.
The B4-zoned project is expected to be undertaken in two stages and include retail spaces, a supermarket, a gym, a new park and nearly 1000 new parking spaces.
The revitalised industrial area will eventually have 29 three-bedroom, 497 two-bedroom and 142 one-bedroom units, and 12 studios.
A pedestrian link will also join Cowper and East streets.
Three of the heritage buildings at on the site would be restored and possibly converted into cafes or office buildings, Develotek director, Robert Sargis, said.
