LAWS EMPOWER PENRITH

New LEP enables development diversity

PENRITH Council has introduced a new streamlined Local Environmental Plan (LEP), which means the city will continue its transformation.

Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler OAM said that the new LEP plans the entire city and zones land to enable the development of thousands of new jobs and a diverse range of homes.

“More than $100 million worth of development is ready to be brought forward by landowners and developers as a direct result of this plan,” Councillor Fowler said.

“The Penrith Health and Education Precinct is the perfect example of what this new LEP will help us deliver. The precinct will deliver more than 13,000 new jobs and 4,500 new homes for Penrith by 2036.

“These jobs will be provided in highly specialised sectors that complement and build upon the precinct’s existing health, education and research infrastructure.

“The new LEP makes planning information more accessible to residents, developers, business owners and community groups by repealing 35 outdated environmental planning instruments and consolidating these into a single city-wide LEP.

“The LEP also helps deliver new dwellings in and around the Penrith City Centre and St Marys, and opens up a precinct close to the Nepean River for tourism and hospitality opportunities, including cafes and restaurants.

“The new LEP modernises our planning in keeping with our status as a Regional City under the State Government’s A Plan for a Growing City strategy.”
