They are the first in the fastest growing region in the metropolitan area and included in the Department of Planning & Environment’s Plan for a Growing Sydney, a guide to use planning decisions for the next 20 years.
The document has nominated a corridor along Bringelly Road from Leppington to Badgerys Creek Airport bisecting the South West Growth Area and linked to the extension of the South West Rail Link.
The other, to maximise opportunities to increase economic activity and jobs growth in the region, is a corridor from the regional city of Liverpool to Bankstown, a strategic centre, with a focus on the Bankstown Airport-Milperra transport gateway.
The department will work with Bankstown City Council to identify and protect strategically important industrial-zoned land in and near Bankstown Airport-Milperra for future employment purposes.
It will also protect Bankstown Airport functions and support airport-related land uses and infrastructure in the area around the airport.
The document aims to strengthen manufacturing in Bankstown and provide capacity for additional mixed-use development in the city including offices, retail, services and housing.
The document has a specific focus on Western Sydney with the aim of transforming the productivity of the region through growth and investment. Elsewhere, the federal government has approved Bankstown Airport’s 20-year masterplan.
Airport CEO, Colin Grove, said the approved master plan contains initiatives to boost investment, employment and improve aviation safety at the site.
