Building a strong local economy is one of Council’s key goals. As a result, Cumberland Council is developing a Business Engagement Program that will provide support for existing and emerging business in the Cumberland area.
Cumberland’s big picture is a local economy of some 23,000 businesses producing a gross regional product of over $11B and a total sales output of over $21B, representing 10% of Greater Western Sydney’s output.
To get to know how Council can best support each business, Council is calling on businesses to have their say through a business engagement survey.
In the five minutes it takes to complete the survey, businesses can share information needed to support them for years to come. The results will help Cumberland Council understand local business and the key challenges that they face.
Council’s Business Engagement team is developing programs to connect local businesses with the support programs offered by government partners such as the NSW Small Business Commissioner, Service NSW and NSW Department of Industry.
The Council’s Business Engagement team is currently on the streets of town centres getting to know local businesses.
The team is driven to improve communication between Council and local business, from day to day operations, and major projects that may affect business.
The interviews with proprietors of shops and businesses located in town centres identified key issues for businesses regarding crime, safety and perceptions of safety.
Areas included in Council’s engagement program are Pemulwuy, Guildford and Pendle Hill, with future audits scheduled.
This direct involvement aims to bring the local knowledge and expertise of local businesses into the planning and development of strategies to improve these local trading environments.
So if you’re a local business trading in Cumberland, Cumberland Council want to hear from you. Tell Council about your business, key challenges and how Council can support you better.
