The club, located in the heart of Lidcombe in John Street, has long been the place that “brings people together” and the Concourse development will only strengthen the club’s motto, community relations manager Julie Milsom said.
The project will include a new club, hotel, residential apartments, a retail precinct and retirement living.
“The Concourse at Lidcombe project will create long-term, local jobs for Western Sydney and bring new life and opportunities to the area,” she said.
“It has the potential to create over 1000 jobs, including approximately 450 during construction and approximately 550 permanent positions.
“These plans are part of Dooleys’ vision to modernise, grow and diversify our operations so we can properly service the needs of our members and the community and ensure the long-term sustainability of the club.”
The Dooleys story started 70 years ago when members of the local Catholic community registered the Lidcombe Catholic Workmen’s Club. The name Dooleys came later with the introduction of an annual bowling competition between several community clubs in the area.
Seeking to differentiate themselves, the Lidcombe Catholic Workmen’s Club bowlers adopted the nickname Dooleys which came from the number of Irish Catholics in the team and in the club’s membership.
In that time, Dooleys Lidcombe Catholic Club has become a community hub providing members with premium entertainment and leisure facilities.
“Dooleys has something for everyone,” Ms Milsom said. “Whether it be a place to catch up with friends, treat the family to a meal, enjoy some entertainment or keep fit at the health and fitness centre.”
Dooleys offers several dining options – Llyod’s Bistro is perfect for a quick lunch or early meal, the John Street Café offers gourmet pies and sandwiches, salads, cakes and gelato while the 8 Dragons restaurant dishes up traditional Chinese favourites and Vincents Noodle House serves up Vietnamese and Asian dishes.
Live bands play at Dooleys Lidcombe every Friday and Saturday night and each week the club hosts Cash Housie, Mahjong, bingo and trivia and a regular line-up of tribute shows.
The Health + Fitness centre at Dooleys is celebrating its fourth anniversary of helping people shape their fitness goals.
The centre features a range of strength, cardio and rehabilitation equipment as well as podiatrist and massage services and runs a weekly over 55s class.
“One of the most important aspects of what Dooleys does is having a very strong and active community engagement program,” Ms Milsom said.
“The club prides itself on being actively involved in the positive development of our local community and we’re proud to do business in Western Sydney.
