Its location in Scott Street is the “best news” for Liverpool said the city’s civic leader.
“To have the headquarters of this $5.3B [airport] operation in our CBD is a massive vote of confidence in our capacity to support this project,” said Liverpool City Council Mayor, Wendy Waller
“Not only is Liverpool close to the airport site at Badgerys Creek, but it is also one of the fastest growing areas in Sydney, so this is a great opportunity for WSA Co to be part of Liverpool's urban transformation,” said. Paul O’Sullivan, company chairman.
Western Sydney’s local government body was full of praise on the decision.
“This is fantastic news for the City of Liverpool, and for Western Sydney,” said Stephen Bali, president, of the Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Council’s (WSROC).
“It is critical that the company responsible for planning Western Sydney Airport is based in Western Sydney.”
WSA Co's initial priorities include recruiting senior management, and commencing procurement of an early works package of construction activities, with work expected to get underway in 2018
One of the major components of the new airport would be its capacity for significant job creation,
WSA Co is expected to create more than 31,000 jobs, and the council expects that many of which would be filled by local residents.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian has her own vision for the airport.
“We believe the Western Sydney Airport offers a real strategic opportunity to global companies and as Premier I am committed to attracting the world’s best to base themselves in Western Sydney,” she said.
The government plans for find ways to unlock the airport’s potential when it hosts the Aerotropolis 2026 summit in 2018.
The summit, an invitation-only affair, will look to attract entities in the defence, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, freight and logistics, agribusiness, health, education and tourism industries.
