Acting Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said an in-principle lease has been agreed to build a new speedway to the south of the Sydney Dragway at Eastern Creek.
“We are making great progress as we work hard with Speedway Australia and Sydney Dragway to make this partnership a success,” Mr Lee said.
“Sydney Metro is now one step closer to building the new speedway and the fans are going to love their new home.”
The inclusion of speedway will add yet another motorsport attraction to the Sydney Motorsport Precinct as the NSW Government develops a masterplan to transform the site into the number one destination for motorsport in NSW.
The masterplan will scope potential opportunities for other motorsport uses within the precinct and be developed in parallel with the preferred speedway site.
Mr Lee also said a new working group convened by the Office of Sport will help streamline the process, with representatives from Western Sydney Parklands Trust, Transport NSW, Speedway Australia and Sydney Dragway.
Speedway Australia general manager Tim Savell said confirmation of the preferred site will bring comfort to fans and excitement about the future.
