Great leaders are empathetic and nurture relationships

HILLS Mayor, Yvonne Keane, has announced the appointment of Acting General Manager, Michael Edgar, to the position of General Manager of The Hills Shire Council.
Formerly Council’s Group Manager for Strategic Planning, Mr Edgar brings over 20 years’ experience in local government, with the last 12 years at The Hills. He took up the role of General Manager on July 14.

Mayor Keane said Mr Edgar was a stellar applicant with significant capabilities in strategic leadership including planning for future growth, the delivery of capital works, asset management and communications.

“While The Hills Shire Council is one of the strongest in New South Wales, we must continue to innovate and improve to meet the challenges of the future, and we believe Michael will be a ground-breaking, focused and forward-thinking General Manager,” Mayor Keane said.

“His extensive knowledge of The Hills Shire Plan, our community’s strategic direction, and understanding of the challenges our Shire will face in accommodating significant growth means The Hills will be in good hands for the future,” she said.

Mr Edgar said he is excited by the role and confident to lead a team that can achieve customer-focused and financially responsible delivery of Council’s services and vision for the future.

“I believe that great leadership is about the ability to demonstrate empathy, nurture constructive relationships, understand strategically where we are headed," he said.
