I have been privileged to be the Minister for Multiculturalism and Minister for Disability Services over the past two years.
Both these roles leave a lasting legacy of increased funding to support cultural diversity, targeted youth programs and support for the most vulnerable members of our society.
As the Minister for Multiculturalism I am proud to have attended 235 individual cultural festivals and implemented initiatives to support greater cohesion on behalf of our diverse communities. Multiculturalism was front and centre during the recent state election, proving our diverse communities can never and should never be taken for granted.
However, I am very proud of having been the Minister for Disability Services responsible for finalising the full transition of the $22B National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
The NDIS is one of the greatest social reforms we have seen in a generation. Over 100,000 people with permanent disability in NSW now have an NDIS plan in place and are enjoying greater choices in terms of their supports and an improved quality of life.
It has been an immense honour serving as a Minister in the NSW Government, whose achievements over the past eight years are far too numerous to mention, but will provide a positive legacy for generations to come.
I commend the Premier Gladys Berejiklian on her recent election victory and the opportunities she has afforded me. Our friendship over more than a decade has encouraged me to accept a position as Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier and Western Sydney on behalf of the NSW Government.
