Parra-amblers Parra-amblers

Ambling for mental health

PARRAMATTA City Rotary Club are organizing the inaugural “Parra-Amble”, a treasure hunt, trivia quest and ‘Amazing Race’ around Parramatta City on May 19.

In conjunction with Parramatta City Council, Parramatta Chamber of Commerce and local businesses, the event aims to raise money for mental health research through Australian Rotary Health. Amblers are encouraged to raise money for research into the preventions, treatments and cures for mental illnesses with prizes for the top fundraising teams.

The Parra-Amble will see friends, families and corporate teams look for secret Checkpoints and take-on quirky challenges. ‘Amblers’ use a map, clue sheet and their mobile phone to complete tasks, answer questions and gain points in the hope of winning a variety of prizes, including awards for team outfits, participation, energy and enthusiasm.

“The Parra-Amble will get all types of people out and around Parramatta looking for special Checkpoints, answering trivia questions and doing quirky challenges,” says Terry Davies, Event Organiser.

“It will be a fun day out everyone, they just need to head to the website and register a team.

This is an all ages, all abilities event where participants will discover things they never knew about Parramatta. Teams of 2 to 6 people will meet at Parramatta Town Hall from 9.30am and have 3 hours to complete as many challenges as they can.

“Parramatta has a history that not even some locals know about. The Parra-Amble will challenge people to see how much they know about the city, and be in the draw to win a number of exciting prizes as they complete the Amble course.”

Teams can win an Avida 4 berth 10 Night Motorhome Adventure, helicopter and plane rides over Sydney or a number of gift vouchers to local restaurants and activities. All prizes will be drawn after the post-event entertainment at 2pm on May 19th.

“This is the Curtain Raiser event and it is something new for people in the area to take part in,” Terry says. “We have already involved a wide variety of local businesses, the Council and individuals so we expect a great turn out to support for an important cause, mental health research.”

The Parramatta Chamber of Commerce and a number of local businesses are sponsoring the event: Crown International Holdings Group, News Local, Dooleys, Parramatta Future Generation, Avida, Vaccinations for Travel, Captain Cook Cruises, Camden Hire, Best Western, Frucor, Riverside Parramatta, Bayliner, McDonalds, The Athlete's Foot, Ginger Indian Restaurant, Nakhle Shirtmakers, Motorola, Telstra Business Centres, Costume Asylum Hire and Design, The Commonwealth Bank, Toscanis, Penrith VRA Rescue Service, The Bike Barn, El-Phoenician, CostumeOne, Bavarian Bier Café and Minchinbury Fruit Market.
