Member for Parramatta Julie Owens has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Sport and Multicultural Affairs Senator Kate Lundy, AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou, and Giants coach Kevin Sheedy (pictured), that construction of the new facilities had started.
The project has received a $2 million grant from the Federal Government.
Ms Owens said the new $11.6 million facilities will be a boost to Western Sydney, delivering a new elite training field, building refurbishments and a Multicultural Community Education Centre at the Giants’ home ground.
“Sport is a great way for communities to get together, especially in an area as culturally diverse as Parramatta,” Ms Owens said.
“The facility users will have the opportunity to build a sense of belonging and self-esteem and develop good physical and mental health.”
The new Multicultural Community Education Centre is the centrepiece of this project, with classrooms, meeting rooms and a 75 person theatrette to provide the indoor learning that goes hand in hand with outdoor activities.
